This was a big year for back to school at the Little House. J is starting 2nd Grade and Miss Kenndy is starting PreK. Both are starting new schools. We were all nervous. I am a planning lunatic and I felt very ill informed going in, but some how we eventually got it all together!

Jaydan's teacher is Mrs. Spivey. We hear she's wonderful. He's starting at West Jackson Primary, which we have heard nothing but WONDERFUL things about, but the change in scenery meant Little Man was very nervous. He'd made some good buddies in our neighborhood over the summer, but none of them were in his class. He actually cried a bit when it was time to leave and I DIED. I didn't anticipate that, so it took me by surprise and crushed my heart. I finally just had to walk out and I was reassured by email that he was fine shortly after.

Kennedy started summer camp at her new school in June. It went.... alright. She's resistant to change and slow to warm up so there were lots of tears during drop offs this summer. So I didn't know what to expect. Her teachers are Ms. Jessica and Ms. Mallory and I'm thrilled to announce that she LOVES it! I'm not sure if its the new teachers or being with slightly older kids or what but its a night and day difference! She was clearly a little nervous, but she did NOT cry and waved me off like she'd been doing school every day for her whole life!

Man, these kids throw you a curve now and then, do they not? They pretty much behaved exactly the opposite of how I'd expected! I'm very proud of them both and know they will both have a great year!

I can hardly believe that my little baby girl is 4 years old! Where has the time gone? You have rolled with the punches through all of this transition and I know change is not easy for you! You're a trooper!

At FOUR you are:

1) SUPER sassy..... good Lord, we will have our hands full with this one as a teenager!

2) So cute..... I mean I know I'm your Mommy, but seriously. You have those gorgeous curls and huge grey eyes and that dimple..... sigh.

3) You have a sweet side too. You are still my snuggler and when you sleep with us you will ofter just say in the middle of the night "Mommy, I love you".

4) Precocious. You suddenly are sounding very grown (and attitudy) and have been known to tell us that this child or that at daycare is "a problem" or was "starting some nonsense". Sometimes you get ahead of yourself and don't make a lot of sense, but often you hit the context on the head and its a bit scary.

5) Getting braver... you are determined to go to Granny's with Bubba this year w/out me. I have some concerns about it but you insist that you're ready.

6) Reluctant..... you like things to be predictable. You like the familiar and don't love change. You hated Disney, don't like anything that is loud or bright (fireworks are a no go), shy and a bit tentative. You're working on getting bolder though and I hope you'll continue to challenge yourself to try new things.

You are our sunshine.... your sweet smile could brighten any day! Its hard to let my baby grow up but its so much fun to see who you are becoming! Love you the whole wide world, sweet girl!Torikayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09030673656601950040noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3268113504070830847.post-2204209249359365522014-05-28T15:15:00.000-04:002014-09-03T15:15:54.942-04:00Jaydan is 7!

Oh, son..... where do I even start? We've had a lot of changes in the last months so things have been kind of wild! You have always wanted to have a party at our house but our old house was just too small. So, this year, we had a party for you and Sissy together at the new house. It was fun! We invited your best buddies over and you all played horseshoes, golf and basketball in the yard. You said it was your best birthday ever!
You are growing so, so fast!! I feel like I just blinked and you're this big, rational thinking kid... not a baby anymore at all!!

At 7 you are:

1) So fun... you still like to entertain with your wit, dancing and here lately singing (very animatedly). Something tells me that throughout your life you will be the life of the party!
2) Kind. You make me so proud when you willingly give up something you want or share something you have for a friend or your little sister. You have a HUGE heart and that is my very favorite thing about you.
3) Busy. Our house is a constant stream of running feet, thrown and bouncing balls, crashing cars, etc. You have a basketball hoop on your bedroom door and I hear you up there CONSTANTLY shooting lay up after lay up or "dunking". Also, interesting, you love basketball on your ipad and have learned tons of players and stats..... I think you may have your Daddy's memory for sports data!
4) Smart. You use your smarts for both good and evil ;)
5) NOT sucking fingers (finally). At your 7 year check up the dentist, was like "Dude, you gotta stop". You had pretty much stopped except for at bedtime once you got into school but we'd tried nasty nail paint, bribes, threats the whole nine. Finally you were smart enough to come up with the idea of wearing a glove to bed. It feels weird enough that if you do it when you're sound asleep and don't know you're doing it.... you stop! I told you you were smart!!
6) My pride and joy. Not every day is easy.... but everyday my heart is full because of you and your Sissy. I could not be any prouder of you and I would not change one single thing about my big seven year old!Torikayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09030673656601950040noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3268113504070830847.post-16773214964515993192013-06-26T08:05:00.002-04:002013-06-26T08:05:43.372-04:00Sissy is THREE!!

Kennedy has celebrated her birthday this year in true style! We went out to eat for her actual birthday day and then over the weekend, we partied at Chuck E. Cheese (you loved the place, NOT the guy so much) and then had friends and family over that night to put the swing set together and bbq. Fun weekend!

Kennedy at three you are:

*So funny..... every day we see a little more "spice" coming out in your personality and you have become quite the character. One of your favorite things to do is hold up your index finger, shake it furiously back and forth and scowl for all you're worth!

* A sweet girl, you are always rubbing an arm, or playing with my hair or just giving kisses and snuggles. You carry a blankey around with you when you first wake up, so make sure you're ready to cuddle up with whoever is handy!

* Charming - over the last month or so you've gotten in the habit of when you catch a grown up looking your way, you will wink and give a thumbs up. You're so little that it catches people off guard and they are instantly disarmed and at your service! :)

* Still pretty timid.... you are "skewed" of a lot still and pretty tentative about new people, places, things.

* Kinda bossy..... Bubba would say you're VERY bossy ;)

* So precious. You bless us every day and our lives are even more full because of you! You start preschool in August, so this is going to be a big year for you.... can't wait to see how you blossom! Hard to believe my baby is three years old!

Torikayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09030673656601950040noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3268113504070830847.post-4769788283228129852013-05-28T12:46:00.000-04:002013-05-28T12:46:11.630-04:00Jaydan is SIX!!

Oh my..... I cannot believe my tiny little baby boy is six years old!!! That scrawny little critter who struggled to breathe and eat as a preemie is now riding a bike and reading and going to school...... sigh.
Jaydan at six you are:

* Still INCREDIBLY funny. We just never know what you're going to say or do because of that we are always just a tiny bit nervous ;) But most of the time whatever it is, ends up being pretty comical!
P.S. Your teacher MAY have had to ask you not to dance at school at time or two :/

* Super smart (just like we've always known). You KILLED Kindergarten and are reading and writing well above your grade level. You were given "Skill Master" awards all four quarters, which is like Honor Roll for Kindergarten. My proudest moment of the whole year though was when your sweet teacher told me at conferences, "Jaydan is such a good boy, he's often the one I point out for the other kids to emulate". THAT meant even more to me than how smart you are!!

* All boy!! You go 100 miles an hour and Dad and I feel like we're constantly saying "Jaydan get down. Jaydan don't run. J don't stand on the couch. J put on your helmet. Jaydan SIT DOWN". There is never a dull moment with you around.

* Some of your favorite things to do right now are to play video games, swim (this one is huge), play basketball in the driveway and play legos.

* Still love your family fiercely. You tease your poor Sissy to death, but would fight anyone else who did so and are so sweet and loving to Dad and I.

* Still sucking those fingers..... sigh.

Happy, Happy Birthday sweet boy. We couldn't be any more proud of the big boy you are becoming! It's hard to be sad to leave that tiny baby behind when such an amazing young man is taking his place a little at a time! We love you to the moon and back!!

Jeff was able to coordinate some vacation time with Jaydan's Fall Break, so we packed our bags and headed to Florida.

Jeff's cousin and her family ended up coming that weekend, too..... they have two boys (11 months apart!!) and a newborn baby girl! The boys all played so well together and we really enjoyed spending time with their parents and baby Victoria, too.

Of course, we always like to spend as much time with MawMaw and Grandaddy as we can. Jeff's sister, April and our nephew DJ joined us for part of the time .... it was a great get-together!

We played so hard! Our whole family loves the beach and we spent pretty much all day, every day at one of our favorite little spots. It's been Jeff and my favorite since before we were married and its fun now to share it with our kids.

Due to weather and changing tides, etc. it looks different every single time we go out there, but its fairly private and easy to get to. The boys (big and small) fish, we play in the sand and if I'm lucky I get a little reading in, too! Even Zoe (the family dog) loves it!

Jeff and I even got to sneak away for a date night with April and Little cousins Addie, Laura and Aaron. Fun was had by all..... even if my husband did embarass me a little with his fancy dancing ;) Its good to get some time with other grown ups too!! Especially other grown ups that are as fun and fabulous as this group is!!

I could only stay for a three day weekend, but Jeff and the kids got the whole week. We don't get a whole lot of time, with all four of us together due to our crazy work schedules but we so enjoy these little get-aways and the time we get together! There is something so calming about the ocean, I really feel like it recharges my batteries but the highlight of the trip is when several dolphins swam by, playing about 30 yards or so from where I was swimming. Ok, THAT part wasn't soooo relaxing until I was sure they were dolphins but it was truly breathtaking! So grateful to have this quality time and these memories with my family!

Kennedy has been busy this fall too! She's finally starting to really talk a lot....using real words! She is 95% sweet and 5% sass.... if she doesn't like something, she will definitely let you know. She's got very strong opinions on things and does not like it when things don't look or act like she thinks they should....... weird, right? I have no idea where she gets that! She getting to be very funny and enjoys making people laugh. She absolutely HAS to do whatever Jaydan is doing..... for better or worse!

She is definitely a little more tentative than Jaydan was. She tends to be a little slower to warm up and is still kind of a Mama's girl (I don't mind). She's very much a girly-girl.... twice I have put her to bed at night in jammies and gone back to check on her later to find her sound asleep in various states of dress, complete with hat, sunglasses, purse and shoes! I'm not sure where she thinks she's going, but she's going in style for sure!

As if the first day of Kindergarten wasn't enough to do this poor Mama in, Jaydan came home on the third day and reported his first loose tooth!! Slow down, kid.... give me a moment to adjust, will you? He is not blessed with an abundance of patience so after a few days he asked me to pull it.... and was very brave while I did!! He lost his first tooth on my birthday, to help me remember the date!

A couple of weeks after that, he was sent home with a note that he'd fallen off of the monkey bars at school, but did not seem to be badly hurt. Its true, he told me about it, but didn't seem to be very much worse for the wear. We even went to soccer practice.... and he scored 2 goals!! But as practice wore on, I noticed that he began to favor his right arm quite a bit. A couple of times he came to me complaining that it hurt and by the time practice was over he was crying.... by the time we got home he was vomiting, so I knew we had a real issue. I put in a call to his Dr. who felt sure it was dislocated. She game me instructions on how to "reduce" it myself..... and in fairness, I tried hard. He was in so much pain and it was so hard for his Mama to put him through that. Eventually we decided to let him sleep on it and take him in to her office in the morning if it wasn't better. It wasn't. She also tried to put it back in and ultimately decided that he was just still in too much pain for there not to be another issue and sent us for x-rays. Sure enough, there was a break! Ugh, more Mom guilt!! Once they set his arm, he felt 100% better and had a cool blue cast to show for it. He was SUPER tough and we put him through a lot of pain!

In total honesty, I'm actually a little surprised that we made it to the ripe ole age of 5 before we needed a cast. He's what we call in the South, "wide open" and its amazing his injuries up until now haven't really warranted medical intervention. I'm glad it wasn't more serious than it was and I guess all I can do is brace myself for the next time! Boys will be boys, after all!

Jaydan's first day of Kindergarten was looked forward to with equal parts of excitement and dread. He was so excited to embark on this adventure and I just can't believe that my tiny baby is going to be roaming around that big school all by himself!

Jeff took him to open house and we were thrilled with the teacher he got and even more thrilled to learn that there were a couple of kids in his class that he already knew, including his bff Dylan. Not one of the kids from his prek are going to this school, so it was a relief to learn that he didn't have to start ALL over.

The big morning finally arrived and we were both nervous.... he said "I'm newvous.... I don't know those people". But he was brave. We got all ready and set off. He did seem every bit as tiny as I was afraid he would walking through those doors!

Again, it was pandemonium! They had breakfast ready for the kids, but with all of the dropping off, etc. it was kind of wild. I sat with J, while he ate and colored and then, I turned to leave and...... burst into tears! Which made him burst into tears! WHAT???? I didn't really see that coming, but it really breaks your heart to realize that the tiny baby you brought home from the hospital and stayed up all night just watching them breathe..... and watched learn to eat, and crawl and finally walk and talk.... is suddenly, in the blink of an eye..... in school!?! Crazy!! We got ourselves together fairly quickly.... and then it was time to go. Another huge milestone.... first day of kindergarten? Check!

Seems like yesterday we were all waiting..... and waiting...... and waiting for your arrival! Time has flown bye and you're already a big toddler! At two you are:

- Pretty sweet..... you will just randomly walk up to us and give a sweet little kiss on the leg or hand, or whatever. When we tell you how much we love you, you simply say "too".

- Getting a little sassier with each passing day! You get your little finger going and will really give it to whoever is on your list at the moment. We can't always understand you, but your intent is always pretty clear!

- Quite a little character..... you have quite a repertoire of facial expressions and aren't afraid to use them! You've been rolling your eyes since you were about a year and a half!

- Still pretty laid back. At two, you are testing your boundaries, for sure..... but your feelings get hurt pretty easily so discipline is pretty straightforward with you. You go to time out, cry and then often will come find me, hug my legs and say, "Sorry, Mommy" before I even come back to talk to you!

- You love your "babies".... you won't get out of bed in the morning with out your Pig and/ or Pillow Pet (preferably both). You get really irritated sometimes that you don't have a THIRD hand for your sippy cup or whatever else you think needs to be toted along!

- Your "Bubba" is still your favorite..... he bugs you some, but when he's not around you ask about him almost constantly. You have to always know where he is and what he's up to! You are so used to him calling you "Sissy" that you call yourself "Shishy"!

- Still pretty tiny! You weigh just about 22 lbs right now..... What you lack in size you make up for in spirit!!

- Such a blessing to our family! You are the prefect little counter-balance for our family and we love you soooooo much~ Happy Birthday Sweet Girl!
How is my tiny baby boy FIVE years old? Jaydan, at five you are:

* So, so funny! You never cease to amaze us with your wit, spazticity, facial expressions and word misuse! Friends and family from across the whole country wait anxiously for the next "Jaydan-ism".

* Very smart.... you knocked preschool out of the park. You are reading already and made a lot of good friends! You were such a good boy, all of the other Moms and your Teachers (Miss Jessica and Miss Nikki) raved about what a sweet boy you are. I think there was only one week all year that you didn't get to pick a treasure from the treasure box!

* Some of my favorite things that you say incorrectly are "beesaster, beediculous, beesgusting (see a pattern?) tach-ed (attached)" You are smart enough to use big words in context, but you don't always get the pronunciation 100% right. BUT, its so cute, I can't bring myself to correct you!

* Getting soooo big, you want a "piddy back ride" to bed every night and you're almost too big for me to carry!

* Still very empathetic..... if you see someone sad, you are sad. You are still very protective of your Sissy, though you HAVE started to antagonize her some too! No one else had better though.... including Daddy and I. Sissy got swatted last week and you yelled "HEY, YOU KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF"!

* A great helper. You're a sweet boy and like to help Mom and Dad out however you can!

* Just absolutely delightful! I can't believe that you're five years old and will be a big ole kindergartener in a few short months! Mama wants to slow down the hands of time, but with each passing year I am prouder still of who you are becoming! We love you, Jaydan Chase!Torikayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09030673656601950040noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3268113504070830847.post-88425321905792098552012-04-30T08:11:00.000-04:002012-12-11T12:24:46.018-05:00Another OneI get shivers of glee down my spine when I think of all the ways we'll be able to torture our kids in the future with these little clips ;) This is from a few months back, but oh so delicious I had to share it!
I'm convinced its the reason Miss Thang didn't talk for the first year and a half of her life and she still liked it a little more than she probably should at this age. I refuse to have one of those preschoolers who is carrying on full conversations around a mouthful of paci. BUT, I was going out of town, she was sick, then I was sick.... on and on. You get the idea. I had more excuses for not weaning her off of it than I had desire to do so.
Until.... she stated biting through the tips of them. Miss Heather, the wonder sitter, brought it to my attention and said no more at her house..... she was worried she would get a hunk off and choke! My mom had weaned my brother and I off of them by cutting the tip off, so I sensed an opportunity. I brought home one of the bitten binkies and that evening offered it to her a couple of times. She would take a couple of pulls and cry.... and throw it down! Pretty soon she wouldn't even take it.
But, what about bedtime? Was I ready for an all night throw down? I mean, she has NEVER gone to sleep without one in her precious little life! We did our usual.... bath, book, binkie, bed..... except we skipped right over the binkie part. And then it happened...... I kissed her goodnight, gave her a baby and.......she went RIGHT to sleep!

I can't lie and say there haven't been a few rough moments, but overall it was sooooo much easier than I'd expected. To celebrate on Saturday when we went to the store I let the kids each get a balloon with the idea that we would do a binkie send off into the sky. We tied a binkie on to the string (she didn't even reach for it when she saw it), I explained that the balloon was going to take it away, she waved "Buh bye" and blew it kisses and we launched the balloons toward their heavenly destination. At least that's how it went in my head.... in reality, the binkie was too heavy for the balloon, so I had to yank it off real quick and stuff it into my pocket, before she could see. Either way, NO MORE BINKIE at the Little House!!! YAY....... I think.
Its unbelievably bittersweet. The last Little Baby is not much of a baby anymore. Its not fair, how fast they grow! She gets more and more fun with each passing day, but its a slow agonizing pain for a Mama to see them leave that "baby-ness" behind. And now that there is not a plug in her mouth, she is free to be just as sassy as she wants to be!Torikayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09030673656601950040noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3268113504070830847.post-61628335687111638452011-12-21T08:14:00.005-05:002011-12-21T08:26:08.287-05:00The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
I love Christmas.... I almost died of anxiety, he had a ball and so all was well. Now, I'm debating on still taking the family or not? We've gone every year, but he just went and Kennedy doesn't have a strong opinion either way.... yet. I have time to decide. See, the kids and I were sitting in the Salt Lake City airport, waiting for a delayed flight when Jaydan should have been getting ready for bed. I was torn on sending him that first day, but he insisted he wanted to go.

There were a few morning tears (him, not me I'm proud to report). The worst part, apparently was trying to get a few good pictures! This next picture breaks my heart, because his nerves are so obvious. Jeff ended up getting a day off so we loaded the kiddos up and headed to Lake Lanier Water Park. It was SO FUN and Jaydan was SO BRAVE (a little more brave than this Mama was comfortable with). He had to do most of them on his own, which terrified me to death but he didn't hesitate.... just dove and/splashed right in!
Kennedy had fun too, which is good since it was part of her birthday celebration! They have a very cool, 18 inch deep, kiddie pool with all sorts of features and sprinklers. She was good with it all, as long as it didn't get her in the face! It was a great time for all four of us and we were glad we got some time as a family (that doesn't happen as often as we'd like).
On the actual forth, the plan was to have a pool party at Miss Heather's and then to the Fireworks in Auburn. It rained all afternoon so we played games and visited instead and then I realized that Auburn AND Winder did their fireworks on Saturday, so we'd missed them!!! Jaydan only got to see a few in our neighborhood and Kennedy slept through that. That was lame of me and I'm sorry they didn't get to see any..... oh well, better luck next year!Torikayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09030673656601950040noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3268113504070830847.post-53612034832882587622011-06-30T12:16:00.000-04:002011-09-01T12:19:27.607-04:00Teeth
Here are those two teeth I was telling you about......

Its hard to believe our sweet baby girl is a whole year old already! Kennedy, at one you are:

* So sweet. You are generous with your hugs and kisses and LOVE to snuggle! If your brother puts his head down by you, you wrap your little arms around his head and slob him up w/ a BIG kiss!

* Such a joy.... your smiles come fast and easy and you light up the whole room. You love to flirt and if you catch someone's eye, you tilt your head waaaaayyyy to one side and just unleash the biggest grin.

* A happy baby. Just recently, you have started to show a little more "spice" and will stiffen up and scream during diaper changes, etc. But it blows over quickly and you get right back to being your sweet self. You have been very easy going and a lot less demanding than Big Brother was at this age ;)

* Have two teeth... finally! You started crawling on June 1, just in time for your birthday.... and just took off like you'd been doing it all of your life!

We are so blessed to have you complete our family! We love you soooo much and have enjoyed watching your personality develop and look foward to seeing even more of who you become!

You HATE feet...... look at the look on your face when mine get too close! Funny girl!!

They came up early and got a hotel with a pool...... heaven for a FOUR year old boy! We had early dinner and then the kids and I did some swimming.

Kennedy LOVED the water.... spent most of her time floating on her back w/ her feet straight up in the air. She discovered pretty quickly that it is VERY funny to slap the surface of the water to make a big splash.... not QUITE so funny when the splash gets YOU in the face!

Jaydan was quite the little fish, too. He hadn't been around a pool since last summer's swim lessons with Granny, so I was curious to see where he was with it. He picked up right where he left off! He floated on his back, laid on his tummy on my hands and kicked his feet and loved jumping off the side to me..... he even went clear under a couple of times! AND he got a very big "squit gun" that he had a lot of fun playing with, too!

The party was Saturday. We started out at the park at our Church for cake and presents. Its just dawning on me as I write this that he was the only little boy there!!! He didn't seem to mind!
